About Our Owner Amy Stevens

Owner Amy Stevens comes from an incredibly artistic and motivated family. She has a bachelor's and master's degree in the field of early childhood education, as well as over 15 years of experience in the childcare industry. She grew up in Clinton, CT, lived in the Boston area, eventually relocating back to Clinton, CT.

As a lifetime jock and recent multi-marathon runner, she believes that nutrition and exercise should begin at an early age. She tries to create a fun and exciting learning experience for children. Amy's Active Learning workshops encourage exploration, problem solving and curiosity while using a variety of learning approaches to touch upon all learning types. These workshops include areas such as art, science, nutrition and literacy, while also including custom themes, holidays and / or seasonal activities.

How did Amy's Active Learning come about?
  • Amy Stevens was in the eighth year of teaching in the early childhood field. She became a Lead Teacher/Mentor for a nation-wide health and wellness program for children called Discover CATCH
  • After completing a program training in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, her assignment was to visit all five early learning center sites around the Boston area each week to motivate, guide and generate new ideas for the teachers and children who were incorporating the program into their classroom
  • Here is where she realized that her true passion is teaching children the importance of health and wellness
  • After years of working with young children, she learned how to be confident, creative and sensitive with her teaching approaches
  • Children learn in different ways, but most importantly, they learn by example. While childhood obesity is at an all time high, Amy is determined to make a positive impact in the health and wellness of young children
  • Amy believes that "sitting still" is not in the children's dictionary. She wants to incorporate fun, energizing movement games and exercises into each and every workshop to keep the brains and bodies of these children moving!
